The Oregon Coast is one of my favorite places to suggest to eloping couples. There’s just something so unbeatably beautiful and still wild about this stretch of rugged, foggy coastline. From massive cliffs to iconic sea stacks to hidden beach waterfalls, there is also just so much to do and see here without the typical crowds – it truly makes for an epic and intimate elopement day. Read on to learn more about where to elope on the Oregon Coast, so you can start planning your unforgettable elopement day.

Important Things to Know Before Eloping on the Oregon Coast

• Permits: Typically you won’t need a permit to elope on the Oregon Coast if it’s just the two of you without a set up. However, I always recommend that you check with the local park authorities to ensure no special use permits are needed and that the activities you are planning are allowed. This is something I assist with for the couples I work with (helping confirm permits, rules, and logistics ahead of time so there are no surprises). • Tide Timing & Safety: Tide charts are available online and show you the exact times of low and high tide. Some spots aren’t accessible or might become dangerous during high tide, so it’s best to learn about the locations you’ll be going to and the best timing for each. Keep in mind that tide timing is one of the biggest factors in a smooth Oregon Coast elopement, that’s why it’s something I help my couples plan around when building their timeline.
• Always Remember Beach (and Cliff!) Safety: Brush up on your knowledge of beach safety and prepare accordingly. You can check out this resource from the Oregon Coast Visitors Association for a good place to start.
• Download Maps Ahead of Time: Cell service can get spotty on the coast once you get further away from the main towns. I recommend downloading a map for the area (you can do this on Apple or Google maps) so you can navigate around even when there is no service.

Best Places to Elope on the Oregon Coast

Cannon Beach & Ecola State Park

• Why it’s great: If you’ve seen photos of the Oregon Coast, you’ve probably seen Cannon Beach and the iconic Haystack Rock. 
• Accessibility: There is public parking along Cannon Beach, but you may have to walk pretty far down the beach depending on where you park. The good news is that it’s a pretty flat walk! For Ecola State Park*, you may be looking at more of a traditional and lengthy hike. 
• Bonus tip: Because Cannon beach is so iconic, it can get a bit crowded, especially on weekends. I recommend this location for a weekday elopement. If you are looking for more privacy overall, Ecola State Park is a good move! If opting for Ecola State Park, make sure you get a day-use permit.

*Special note: As of January 2026, Ecola State Park is currently closed after erosion from winter storms. I’ll post an update once it’s reopened!

Cape Kiwanda (Pacific City)

• Why it’s great: This spot is simply gorgeous! Whether you’d like to hike up the dunes and explore the cliffs area or stay on the beach below, it’s a beautiful location all around. Bonus points: it’s conveniently located in Pacific City, so there is a lot to do nearby.
• Accessibility: There is a wheelchair accessible viewpoint near the boat ramp . It’s a short stretch to the dunes and cliffs from the parking lot. Keep in mind that the dune hike is strenuous – it’s a nearly vertical hike up.
• Bonus tip: There is public parking, but you’ll need to purchase a parking pass at the back of the lot (don’t get fined $200+!). Side note, are you into adventure sports? This is a popular spot for paragliding!

Hug Point State Recreation Site

• Why it’s great: If you’re looking for a spot that combines beaches and waterfalls this is it! Check out interesting rock formations, a waterfall, and sea caves. There is even a small land bridge between Hug Point and a neighboring beach.
• Accessibility: Beach access is via stairs and the parking lot is on a sharp slope. Once you are down on the beach, it is relatively flat.
• Bonus tip: Make sure you plan your elopement for low tide so you can access the full beauty of Hug Point!

*Special note: As of January 2026, Hug Point’s parking lot is currently closed after erosion from winter storms. I’ll post an update once it’s reopened!

Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor

• Why it’s great: This area near Brookings features some of the most stunning scenery on the coast. There are sea stacks, natural arches, peaceful coves, and cliffside trails. It’s perfect for couples looking for an elopement with fewer crowds. You can explore some of the more popular scenic spots within the corridor, like Secret Beach or Natural Bridges, or go off the beaten path and find secluded beaches.
• Accessibility: There’s something for everyone here. From accessible viewpoints to strenuous hikes, you can plan your day to fit your needs.
• Bonus tip: Make a day of exploring the different beaches and viewpoints along the corridor. Pack a picnic, go hiking, and have an adventure!

Example Oregon Coast Elopement Day

One of my favorite parts of planning elopements is helping couples design days that feel unrushed and experience-focused. Here’s a snapshot of one couple’s day:

• Write vows together in front of your coastal Airbnb in Oswald West State Park
• Pop some champagne to celebrate
• Get ready together in an A-frame cabin
• Walk to a nearby beach, taking your time and literally smelling the flowers 
• Say vows on the beach and exchange rings
• Spend some time exploring the beach and having fun
• Head to a nearby cliffs area and take a short hike to a viewpoint
• Hang out with each other until sunset to end the night

Extra Tips for Eloping on the Oregon Coast

• Best Seasons for Coastal Elopements: The weather on the coast is kept pretty moderate because of the Pacific Ocean, but the seasons do have different trends. The vibe you’re going for may help decide your timing. Spring brings cooler weather but is more rainy – this time of year is great for whale watching though. Summer is warmer and you may be more likely to get some sunshine on your day. Fall brings cooler weather but can still be quite pleasant. Check out this October elopement blog. • What to Wear: Be sure to research the weather patterns of the Oregon Coast during your chosen elopement season and dress accordingly. Also keep in mind that it can get chilly and windy on the coast and weather changes quickly, so you may want to layer up and bring handwarmers.
