Hocking Hills is hands down the best Midwest elopement destination. It’s perfect for couples who want an epic elopement that’s close to home and doesn’t compromise on epic natural scenery. Whether you are looking for an epic hiking adventure or a relaxing forest getaway for your elopement, here’s why Hocking Hills is my top recommendation for couples eloping in the Midwest!
I work with couples from Ohio and all over the region to plan and photograph their dream elopements in Hocking Hills. If you’re looking for an expert who can guide you on the best locations, timing, and things to do, learn more about how I can help.

What if I told you your elopement day could include multiple epic caves, waterfalls, and cool overlooks all in one compact area? That’s Hocking Hills. From stunning locations like Ash Cave (a gorgeous recess cave with a waterfall flowing off the edge) to the famous Old Man’s Cave with waterfalls around every corner, Hocking Hills has an impressively diverse landscape to explore.
I’ve also had the chance to explore off-the-beaten-path trails in Hocking Hills and have a ton of hidden gem locations I love sharing with couples. Learn more about some of my favorite spots in this podcast:
I’ll be honest, I’m not originally from Ohio and the first time I visited Hocking Hills I was shocked this kind of scenery existed in the state. But that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s this little corner of the Midwest that is full on destination elopement vibes. Seriously, this is the kind of scenery you find in the Pacific Northwest or tucked away in the mountains.
From choosing the right location to building a timeline that actually feels good, I help guide my couples through every part of the planning process. Get help planning your destination elopement in Hocking Hills.

If you’re looking for a destination elopement without traveling far, Hocking Hills is the answer. It’s an epic location within a short driving distance from Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, and anywhere in Ohio.
Since it is such a drivable destination, that also cuts a ton of stress from your elopement experience. You’re not having to book flights and pack all of your elopement attire into a suitcase. You’re not having to rent a car. It just feels so much easier.

While many elopement locations have ideal weather and scenery for just one or two seasons of the year, Hocking Hills has a longer than normal window for when you can elope there. I recommend between mid-August and early June to catch the park at its most beautiful and to simultaneously avoid crowds. You’ll get gorgeous frozen waterfalls and snowy scenery in winter, waterfalls at their peak flow in spring, and nice weather and beautiful foliage in fall.
The only season I do not recommend in Hocking Hills is summer, and that’s to ensure you can have a private and intimate elopement away from crowds. Learn more about why you shouldn’t elope in Hocking Hills in the summer.

As long as you love spending time around nature, Hocking Hills is a great elopement location for couples of all adventure levels. Whether you are looking for easy hikes with epic views and chill cabin hangouts or more adventurous activities like longer hikes, kayaking, or rock climbing, Hocking Hills has something for you.

Hocking Hills has some of the best cabin stays in Ohio. Seriously, the area is full of romantic getaways, unique and modern cabins, tree houses, and even lodging with private hiking trails.
One of my top recommendations to eloping couples is to splurge on a super cool stay. This is where your getting ready photos, first look moments, and post-ceremony celebrations will be, so it’s important to stay somewhere you truly love!
Staying somewhere epic with awesome amenities will also help turn your Hocking Hills elopement into a multi-day experience. Think honeymoon + elopement all in one!

Hocking Hills State Park trails are dog-friendly (you’ll just want to avoid nature preserve trails if you’re bringing your pup), and there are tons of pet-friendly cabins near the park. If you’re thinking about bringing your dog(s), this is the place to do it!
