Cool Places to Stay Near Breckenridge

Breckenridge has a lot of cool stays nearby. I recommend basing your stay in Breckenridge itself or a cute small town like Frisco. Here are some of my favorites nearby:

Tip: When eloping somewhere like the mountains where the weather can feel pretty changeable, I always recommend renting a cool cabin stay as a back up location for some of your elopement activities. Choose somewhere with good natural lighting that you would feel comfortable having your ceremony at or spending a significant amount of time in case of inclement weather. This can help prevent stress day of, because you’ll know you always have a great backup location.

These are the kinds of details I help my couples navigate every step of the way as a Colorado elopement photographer and planner.

Elopement Activities Near Breckenridge

So one thing I always tell the couples that I work with is that your elopement is more than just some photoshoot or a traditional wedding transported to the mountains. Your elopement is an intentional time for you and your partner to get married on your own terms. Adding unique to you activities can help make it feel that way.

Here are some ideas for what you could do near Breckenridge:

  • Hiking: this one is hard to resist in the Colorado mountains anyways, but if you want to feel grounded and immersed in nature on your elopement day, I highly recommend incorporating a hike into your day. You can find everything from beautiful 1 mile lake hikes to more strenuous half or full-day hikes near Breckenridge.
  • Share a morning coffee by an alpine lake: Is coffee y’all’s thing? Why not incorporate a hike to an alpine lake and sip hot coffee while you watch the sunrise?
  • Bring your four-legged bestie: If you have a fur-child(ren) that you love and want to incorporate into your day, bring them with you on your elopement day! There are so many great dog-friendly trails near Breckenridge, they can easily join you.
  • Head to a winery or brewery: Do y’all love a good wine or beer? Plan to stop in for a local tasting and grab a bite to eat during your elopement day.
  • Head to a cute small town: Breckenridge can feel touristy. If cute small towns are more your vibe, head somewhere nearby like Buena Vista. Grab a cup of coffee and explore the small town charm.

The key here? Basically, imagine your perfect day together and let’s make it happen.

Tips for Eloping in Breckenridge

  • Prepare for the Altitude: Breckenridge is at a high altitude, around 9,600 feet. If you’re coming straight from sea level, you might experience altitude sickness symptoms (the first time I visited Breckenridge, I did a strenuous hike my first day and ended up with a brutal headache and other fun symptoms!). Altitude sickness is no joke, so it’s best that you take steps to prepare. Some things you can do are arrive early and ascend gradually/give your body time to acclimate, stay hydrated (avoiding alcohol and heavy exercise), and get plenty of rest.
  • Prepare for the Weather: Weather in the mountains can be chillier and changeable. Make sure you come prepared for the colder temps and potential rain/snow. You’ll also want to prepare for the sun – I personally feel like it’s more intense in Colorado.
  • Don’t Forget the Number One Rule of Elopements: I like to say the number one rule of elopements is to get married on your own terms. That means, have an intentional elopement that feels good to you. Leave behind expectations and anything that doesn’t feel right. Get married your way, my friends.

You can plan a Breckenridge elopement yourself, but you don’t have to. I help couples simplify the process and create an elopement day that actually feels like them. Learn more.
