Imagine saying your vows in an enormous recess cave with a rushing waterfall behind you. Just you, your love, and the sounds of nature all around. That’s exactly what you can have when you plan your Hocking Hills elopement for spring. The rushing waterfalls, fewer crowds, and moody season make spring the best time for a Hocking Hills elopement.

The waterfalls at Hocking Hills State Park are all seasonal, and they are at their best in the spring. This is due to more rainfall during the season combined with the winter snow melt in the region. In spring, the creekbeds are flowing and the waterfalls are rushing, making for a beautiful scenic landscape for your elopement. Your Hocking Hills State Park elopement will literally feel like something out of a fairytale.
In contrast, the waterfalls tend to dry up in summer and fall, and you may be lucky to see them only after rain in those seasons. For example, I recently visited Ash Cave in August and the waterfall and ground water was completely gone. There are still the interesting cave formations, but it lacks the oomph the waterfalls give the park.

Spring is one of the best times for eloping in Hocking Hills because you are more likely to have pleasant weather for hiking and general elopement activities. Yes, it may be a rainier season, but you at least aren’t likely to be sweating through your wedding attire or feeling super fatigued and overheated!
Spring is a less popular time for tourism in Hocking Hills, so you are more likely to be able to enjoy some privacy on the trails and during your ceremony. I still recommend an early morning or weekday elopement for maximum privacy, but going in the off-season certainly helps too!
You’re also more likely to be able to find fun housing options and, importantly, book vendors during this season, as it’s not peak wedding season in Ohio.

My favorite month for a spring elopement in Hocking Hills is May. You’ve got the re-emergence of the green foliage, the rushing waterfalls, and still can enjoy fewer crowds.
The waterfalls in Hocking Hills are seasonal. You may not see them in summer or fall unless it has recently rained.
Some additional things to consider bringing for your spring elopement in Hocking Hills State Park are good hiking boots, clear umbrellas or rain jackets, and bug spray.
