Cleveland Elopement Locations
Squire’s Castle – Squire’s Castle is an old gatehouse from the 1890s that’s now part of the Cleveland Metro Parks system. It really does feel like an old castle situated in nature, so it’s the perfect location for couples who want to add a touch of whimsy and romance to the day. You can explore the structure and relax together in the beautiful park.
Edgewater Park – One of my favorite spots for couples who want a peaceful, intimate moment with Lake Erie and Cleveland behind them. Sunset here is a fun experience, especially on a weekday when crowds are thinner.
Cleveland Cultural Gardens – The Cleveland Cultural Gardens are a gorgeous outdoor location with a lot of variety. I’d especially recommend this location summer through early fall when there is still plenty of foliage to immerse yourselves in. If you’re wanting a nature getaway in the city, this is a good one!
Cleveland Botanical Garden – If you’re wanting a location in nature with increased privacy, look no further than the Cleveland Botanical Garden. This location can be reserved for a ceremony and/or reception, as well as just photos.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park (just outside Cleveland) – Whether you are looking for waterfalls, scenic lakes, or beautiful overlooks, this location is for the nature lovers and adventurers. This is a great location for couples looking for increased privacy and to spend a day out in nature. You can learn more in my guide on where to elope in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The Arcade Cleveland – A breathtaking indoor venue with historic architecture and a glass ceiling. It was even featured in the newest Superman movie. You can take elopement portraits here if they do not have a special event happening. If you would like to have your ceremony here though, you will need to check in and reserve with the Hyatt Regency.
This list is just a few of my favorite locations in Cleveland. I have hidden gem locations I love, and I work with couples to match them with a spot that best suits the type of day they’d like to have. Learn more.
Elopement Activity Ideas in Cleveland
So one thing I always tell the couples that I work with is that your elopement is more than just some photoshoot or a mini-traditional wedding with just the two of you. Your elopement is an intentional time for you and your partner to get married on your own terms. Adding unique-to-you activities can help make it actually feel that way.
Here are some ideas for what you could do near Cleveland:
Share a morning coffee at a lakeside rental: Is coffee y’all’s thing? Why not rent a beautiful lake-side Airbnb and enjoy a coffee outside while you take in the views?
Head to a winery or brewery: Do y’all love a good wine or beer? Plan to stop in for a local tasting and grab a bite to eat during your elopement day.
Head to a fun neighborhood of Cleveland: Sometimes downtown Cleveland can feel like a lot. If you want to enjoy Cleveland without the pressure of being downtown, head to one of Cleveland’s neighborhoods for a slower pace. Some of my favorites are University Circle, Little Italy, Ohio City, and Tremont.
Take to the lake: One of Cleveland’s biggest attractions is Lake Erie. Rent a boat and head out on the lake to enjoy the views just the two of you.
The key here? Basically, imagine your perfect day together and let’s make it happen.
You can elope in Cleveland year round, but each season will have its different pros and cons. It’s just a matter of what you are looking for in an elopement day!
Spring: if you’re looking for gorgeous flowers (cherry blossoms!), greenery, and mild weather.
Summer: if you’re looking for greenery, warm weather, and longer days with plenty of daylight.
Fall: if you’re looking for gorgeous foliage at the parks and mild weather.
Winter: if you’re looking for coziness and snow-covered scenery.
With elopements, you have two options for taking care of the legal marriage side of things:
If you’re not from Cleveland and don’t want to do the legal side of things there, you don’t have to. You can opt for a civil ceremony in your location instead. For example, I eloped in Iceland, but my husband and I did our legal ceremony in Ohio afterwards – it was just easier.
You can do the legal marriage on your elopement day in Cleveland. If you are opting for this, check with the court in the county where your ceremony will take place for the most up-to-date guidance and requirements for getting your marriage license. Here is the guide for Cuyahoga County.
Want to keep your day as small as possible and need an officiant? I’m ordained and registered in the state of Ohio and can act as your photographer and officiant. Learn more about my Cleveland elopement photography services.
Permits & Rules
Many locations require a permit either for photography or for using the location for your elopement ceremony. I’ve linked the relevant websites for each of the locations above so you know exactly where to look for the best information.
